Popular South African Paralympic athlete Oscar Pistorius has been arrested, following reports that his girlfriend was found dead at his home.
Pistorius, the double amputee star popularly known as the “Blade Runner” was in police custody as of Thursday after he apparently shot and killing his girlfriend.
According to the South African news agency News24, the 26-year-old may have mistaken the for an intruder.
Police spokeswoman Lieutenant Colonel Katlego Mogale revealed a women was shot at Pistorius’ home, but declined to comment or identified the man in custody.
The spokeswoman said: “I can confirm that a woman has been fatally wounded in a shooting at Oscar Pistorius’s house.
“A 26-year-old man has been taken into custody.”
Local newspaper said Pistorius was expected to appear in court later today.
It is understood that a 9mm pistol was recovered, while Mogale went on to tell local media: “At this stage we are still conducting a preliminary inquiry.
“Statements are conducted with neighbours and people who were at the scene. A case of murder was being investigated.”
