NEW ORLEANS, LA, Sporting Alert – College bowl games, matches, television and streams and starting times for Saturday, December 16.
Five college football bowl games are on the schedule for the opening weekend of these fixtures, but only one ranked team is involved.
At the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, No. 25 Boise State and Oregon will battle for the LAS VEGAS BOWL, live on ABC and WatchESPN, starting at 3:30 pm.
According to ESPN’s Football Power Index, the Ducks (7-5) have a 63-percent of beating the Broncos (10-3).
Oregon will be without star running back Royce Freeman, who became the latest high-profile player to skip his team’s bowl to avoid a possible injury.
The Pac-12 outfits won two straight to close out the regular season and three in last four overall.
Co-offensive coordinator Mario Cristobal, who takes over from the departing Willie Taggart, who accepted the Florida State head-coaching job, is hoping to use Las Vegas Bowl to set the tone for the program going forward.
“We’re gonna set the identity,” Cristobal said. “We’re gonna solidify it in the bowl game of what is to come, by being relentless, by being physical, by being explosive.”
Boise State, meanwhile, will be hoping to finish the campaign on a winning note.
The Broncos, who rallied in the fourth-quarter to top then-No. 25 Fresno State 17-14 in the Mountain West championship game, have dropped just three games this season and won eight of their last nine overall.
Saturday’s meeting will be the third between Boise State and Oregon, with the former winning on each of those occasions.
In other college football bowl games on Saturday, North Texas and Troy will battle in the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl, Western Kentucky and Georgia State meet in the AutoNation Cure Bowl, Marshall takes on Colorado State for the Gildan New Mexico Bowl, while Middle Tennessee tackles Arkansas State in the Raycom Media Camellia Bowl.
