KINGSTON, Jamaica (Sporting Alert) — The following is the schedule on day three of the Jamaica National Senior Track and Field Trials at the National Stadium in Kingston on Saturday.
The championship gets underway at 9:00 am local time with the heats of the men’s 200m dash, which will see several of the islands’ upcoming sprinters looking to join Usain Bolt on the team.
The Favourite to seal the title is Nickel Ashmeade, who is the second fastest Jamaican this season behind Bolt at 20:00 seconds. Ashmeade, who trains with American Tyson Gay in Florida, USA, was third in the men’s 100m final on Friday night in 9.99 and with Bolt and Yohan Blake not racing the event he’s the man to beat.
However, Olympic bronze medallist Warren Weir and Jason Young are the other front-runners for places on the team.
Meanwhile, Olympic 100m champion Shelly Ann Fraser-Pryce will bow into action in the women’s 200m after skipping the 100m at the trails – having secured a spot for winning the event during the IAAF Diamond League series last year.
Anneisha McLaughlin, women’s national 100m champion Kerron Stewart and Sherone Simpson are all set to race in the 200m as well.
Also down on Saturday’s third day of action are the men’s and women’s 400m semi-finals, as well as the semi-finals and final of the men’s 110m hurdles, an event which could see world leader Hansle Parchment improving on his own 13.05 national record.
