Barcelona, Spain (Sporting Alert) — Lionel Messi could face Villarreal on Saturday after missing Argentina’s friendly match against Costa Rica with a groin injury earlier this week.
The Barcelona forward played against the United States in their 1-1 draw last weekend, but was ruled out of Tuesday’s game against Costa Rica with a groin bother.
Ant it was feared that Messi would have had to sit out Barcelona’s clash against Villarreal with the problem, but the club confirmed that it is nothing serious.
”Leo Messi arrived at Barcelona, along with his team-mates (Diego) Milito and (Javier) Mascherano,” a club statement read on Wednesday.
”After completing tests the doctors have ruled out any adductor muscle injury in his right leg.
”The player will continue physio treatment until Saturday and will then be evaluated ahead of the match against Villarreal.”
