(Sporting Alert) — Ghana will take a commanding 6-1 advantage over Egypt into the second leg of their African Fifa World Cup play-off match in Cairo on Tuesday.
The Black Cats battered Egypt in the first leg to all but secure a third-straight Fifa World Cup appearance, but captain and striker Asamoah Gyan has called on his teammates to remain focus and complete the job.
“We’re desperate to get back to the World Cup, but we have to make sure we do things in the right way in the second leg,” Gyan said, who netted twice in the first leg. “It’s football, so anything can happen.
“We’re in a comfortable position right now, but we need to totally focus on our job and make sure we do what we have to do to reach Brazil. We have to do things the right way in Cairo.”
Meanwhile, the starting lineup for Ghana will see coach Kwesi Appiah making just one change to the team that win in the first leg, with defender Harrison Afful coming in for Samuel Inkoom.
Also starting are Gyan, who will play up top with Majeed Waris, Andre Ayew, Kwadwo Asamoah, Michael Essien and Sulley Muntari.
Ghana Starting XI: Fatau Dauda, Harrison Afful, Daniel Opare, Jerry Akaminko, Rashid Sumaila, Michael Essien, Andre Ayew, Sulley Muntari, Abdul Majeed Waris, Asamoah Gyan, Kwadwo Asamoah.
