LIVERPOOL (Sporting Alert) — Sir Alex Ferguson says his Manchester United side will be fit and ready to face arch rivals Liverpool in Sunday’s Barclays Premier League clash at Anfield, but squash reports that Wayne Rooney would have been ready for the game.
Rooney, who has been out of action since the victory over Wigan with a gashed thigh – is on schedule with his recovery, but Ferguson says he’s not ready to play just yet.
The boss also revealed that all his players who were involved in Champions League action on Wednesday were fit for Sunday’s game.
“Everyone who was involved on Wednesday is available,” he said. “I know there were reports in the paper about Rooney being possible, but that is not the case.
“He’s not far away, I think he may be fine for next week.
“He’s doing a lot of great training and has been working hard. It’s just a matter of getting him into the full football training side of things, which he has done part of.”
The boss is again expected to start with Robin van Persie in the attack with both Danny Welbeck and Javier Hernandez set for bench starts again.
Meanwhile, Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers will recall all his big names for the clash, which means the likes of Steven Gerrard, Luis Suarez, Daniel Agger, Glen Johnson, Martin Skrtel, and Joe Allen will be in action.
They all sat out the midweek’s 5-3 Europa League win at Young Boys.
