LIVERPOOL (Sporting Alert) — Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has vowed to start rebuilding his squad for the coming and it is believed that the new boss is keen on adding Fulham forward Clint Dempsey to his roster.
Rodgers was named as the Reds’ new manager in midweek, following the sacking of Kenny Dalglish, who failed to lead his team to an acceptable ending position in Barclays Premier League.
From day Rodgers, who was at Swansea City last season, noted that his main goal to rebuild and the Daily Star Sunday is now reporting the Dempsey is one of his main targets.
The American was very impressive for Fulham last season – scoring 21 goals and helping his team to a top ten finish.
Dempsey has one year left on his current contract, but apparently he’s ready to quit Craven Cottage.
The 29-year-old revealed that he wants to play Champions League football, which could kill any move to Liverpool.
Arsenal, who had a resurrected second half of the season last year, remains the front runners to sign to American star.
Meanwhile, it is believed that Holland forward Dirk Kuyt is on his way out of Liverpool after Turkish clubthat he’s signed a three-year deal with them.
“Dirk Kuyt has signed a three-year contract,” a brief statement on Fenerbahce’s official website read.
Liverpool FC have since confirmed his departure on their own website: “Liverpool Football Club can confirm that Dirk Kuyt has advised the club that he has today reached an agreement with Fenerbahce SK over a move to Turkey, and the transfer is expected to be completed in the next few days.
“Everyone at Liverpool Football Club would like to wish Dirk all the very best for the future and thank him for his contribution to the club.”
