MANCHESTER (Sporting Alert) — After resting for the midweek Europa League game, Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard will return to the Blues’ for Sunday’s Barclays Premier League clash with Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.
Lampard, who has been in good scoring form recently, was rested for the 1-1 draw with Sparta Prague on Thursday, but is a strong favourite to start for Chelsea in the EPL Sunday afternoon.
Chelsea manager Rafa Benitez is also expected to start defenders Ashley Cole and Branislav Ivanovic, while striker Demba Ba is available again after being cup-tied.
Meanwhile, Manchester City is expected to be without leading defender and captain Vincent Kompany, who remains doubtful after missing four games because of a calf injury.
Manchester City are hoping for a win on Sunday, following Manchester United’s victory over QPR, which opened a 15 point gap between the rivals in the EPL standings.
Chelsea are sitting third on 49 points, but could pull within one point of City with a win.
