The Red Devils have been slowed by injuries to key players, with the likes of midfielder Paul Pogba (muscle) and defenders Chris Smalling (knee) and Phil Jones (foot) on the sidelines.
Marouane Fellaini is suspended and Zlatan Ibrahimovic and defender Marcos Rojo are both out for the season with knee injuries.
Shaw will start at left, while Rooney comes into the side to link up with midfielders Michael Carrick and Ander Herrera, as well as act as support in attack.
As we reported earlier in the buildup, Spain international Juan Mata is fit again and he’s on the bench alongside Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Antonio Valencia and Matteo Darmian.
Jesse Lingard, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford lead a young, but talented front three.
Meanwhile, Swansea City made one change to the side that beat Stoke City, with Leroy Fer out with a dead leg and is replaced by Ki Sung-yueng.
Martin Olsson and Jack Cork are both available after recovering from respective hamstring and ankle injuries.
The Swans continue to be without Angel Rangel (foot), Nathan Dyer (Achilles) and Wayne Routledge (hernia).
