MADRID, Sporting Alert – Manchester United wants fast wingers who can score goals and Cristiano Ronaldo fits the criteria.
Red Devils manager Louis van Gaal has admitted that he would love to bring the Real Madrid star back to Old Trafford.
It looks like time is slowly coming to an end for Ronaldo at Real Madrid, with several media outlets in Spain and the UK even claiming that he is set to leave during the summer transfer window.
Van Gaal revealed that Ronaldo is a player he would love to buy, but added that Manchester United, which is also said to be monitoring Gareth Bale, is looking at other players as well.
The speedy winger made 292 appearances for Man United and scored 118 goals before moving to Spain to join Real Madrid in 2009 on what was a world record £80m fee at the time.
“Ronaldo plays on the wings and he is fast and scores goals,” Van Gaal was quoted as saying in the Mirror.
“There is no trainer in the world that doesn’t like him.
“Of course we are looking – but are looking at all players, not just Ronaldo. But these players are mostly ungettable.
“With Ronaldo, let’s wait and hope.”
The talented winger was a hit at Manchester United after moving to the club in 2003 on £12.24m transfer fee from Sporting Lisbon and the fans would love to see the club icon making his return to Old Trafford.
It is understood that several other clubs in Europe are also said to be very interested in signing the forward, and who would blame them.
In England, it is believed Manchester City and Chelsea are both wanting to sign the 30-year-old in the summer transfer window, while French big spending giants PSG are optimistic about landing his signature.
Ronaldo and Real Madrid were heavily criticized on Saturday following the 4-0 defeat against title rivals Barcelona on Saturday.
