Miami Hands No. 18 Virginia 4th Successive Defeat

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — Bruce Brown scored 14 points, including a key 3-pointer with 23.8 seconds left in overtime and Miami beat No. 18 Virginia 54-48 in a defensive packed contest on Monday night. Gametracker

Trailing Virginia 48-47 late in overtime, Brown collected a pass from Davon Reed before knocking down the long-range jumper over his marker to give the Hurricanes a 50-48 lead.

Reed and Dejan Vasiljevic then sealed the win by knocking down free throws in the closing seconds for the visitors, who were without starting guard Ja’Quan Newton, who has been suspended for three games for violating team rules.

Kamari Murphy added a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds and Vasiljevic finished with 10 points off the bench for Miami (19-8, 9-6 Atlantic Coast Conference), which now has a better recorded then the Cavaliers.

Devon Hall led Virginia (18-9, 8-7 ACC) with 15 points and made 3 of his 5 3-pointers, while Isaiah Wilkins ended with 10 points, 10 rebounds and four steals for the Cavaliers, who are now on a four-game losing streak.

Virginia is on its longest losing streak since 2010 when its lost nine straight, including a 74-62 defeat to the Canes then.

On Monday night, Miami led Virginia 20-19 at the half and the two teams combined to shoot 15-of-44 from the floor.

They finished 43-43 at the end of regulation.

The Hurricanes went 3-0 without Newton, who could return to the lineup for Saturday’s clash against Duke.
