BERLIN (Sporting Alert) — Dirk Nowitzki scored just eight points in 34 minutes, but the Dallas Mavericks survived some sloppy plays to edged Alba Berlin 89-84 in a preseason game on Saturday night.
Nowitzki also had five rebounds in the game on his return to Germany.
Vince Carter, Darren Collison and Chris Kaman all scored 14 points to lead the way for the Mavericks.
Shawn Marion had a double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds, while O.J. Mayo added eight points, four assists and three boards in the win.
Deon Thompson finished with a game high 20 points to lead the way for Alba Berlin, the eight-time Germany champions.
Thompson also pulled down five rebounds.
Nihad Djedovic finished with 15 points and five rebounds, while Vule Avdalovic collected 13 points and four assists in the defeat on Saturday.
Yassin Idbihi contributed 12 points, and Zach Morley added 10 rebounds and six points for the home side.
Also on Saturday, Rudy Gay scored 27 points, Mike Conley Jr. had 18 points, eight helpers and five boards and Marc Gasol finished with 16 points and 16 boards in the Memphis Grizzlies easy 105-93 victory over Real Madrid.
Rudy Fernandez scored 16 points for the losers.
The San Antonio Spurs defeated Siena 106-77 in another preseason game on Saturday.
The likes of Tony Parker, Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili were all involved.
