The second day of action saw a few teams staying alive, but defending champion Oregon State was not one of them, losing 4-1 to Creighton in the Corvallis Regional at Goss Stadium.

After shockingly losing its opening game on Friday, Oregon State entered Saturday’s game against in a must-win situation.

The Beavers were put under early pressure in the third innings after Creighton raced out to a 3-0 lead. The defending national champions scored in the fourth to make it 3-1, but the Bluejays added another run in the seventh for the final tally.

Defeat for No. 16 national seed Oregon State means a new champion will be crowned in the Corvallis Regional and at the College World Series.

Regional Round Results: 2019 NCAA Division I baseball – Day 1

There was a shocking result on Saturday as well at the Los Angeles Regional at Jackie Robinson Stadium after third seed Loyola Marymount edged the national No. 1 seed UCLA, 3-2.

The defeat means the Bruins will be locked in an elimination game with No. 2 seed Baylor at 3 pm, live on ESPN2 and streaming on WatchESPN on Sunday.

It was the second win for Loyola Marymount at the Los Angeles Regional, following its 3-1 victory over Baylor in the opener.

Elsewhere on Saturday, No.1 seed Louisville went down 4-1 to third seed Illinois State at the Louisville Regional, No. 1 seed Texas Tech beats No. 2 seed Dallas Baptist 3-2 at Lubbock Regional, while third seed Duke upset No. 1 West Virginia 4-0 at the Morgantown Regional.

National No. 2 seed Vanderbilt picked up an 8-5 win over second seed Indiana State at the Nashville Regional to move a step closer to the Super Regional.

At the Oxford Regional at Swayze Field at Oxford-University Stadium, No. 1 Ole Miss easily put away No. 3 seed Clemson 6-1.
