(Sporting Alert) — NCAA college football scores and results from the games which took place on New Year’s Eve on Tuesday, December 31.
In the highlight of the night, star Johnny Manziel passes for four touchdowns and ran for another and No. 21 Texas A&M (9-4) rallies from a 21-point deficit to beat No. 24 Duke, 52-48 in the Chick-fil-A Bowl.
Senior Toney Hurd Jr. also returned an interception for 55 yards for a touchdown for the Aggies’ late go-ahead score and its first lead of the game with 3:33 remaining.
Despite being down 38-17 at halftime and 41-31 behind going into the fourth quarter, Manziel wasn’t prepared to give up on winning this bowl game.
“I was in a zone I haven’t been in before,” Manziel said. “Ever. I just wanted this game.”
Manziel was also delighted with the way his teammate rallied back.
“It’s an unreal feeling, I know that,” he said speaking on how felt after the comeback.
“The way these guys fought, it was unreal. I’m proud of them.”
Anthony Boone passed for 427 yards and finished with three touchdowns for Duke, but was picked off by Hurd in one of his two interceptions on the night.
“It hurt,” Boone said. “It was a very unfortunate play on my part.”
In other New Year’s Even football bowl scores, No. 17 UCLA (10-3) routed Virginia Tech (8-5), 42-12 to win the Hyundai Sun Bowl.
The Bruins (10-3) outscored the Hokies 28-2 in the fourth quarter after failing to score in the third quarter.
Mississippi State (7-6) thrashed Rice (10-4), 44-7 for the AutoZone Liberty Bowl and Arizona (8-5) scored a 42-19 victory over Boston College (7-6) in the AdvoCare V100 Bowl.
