OKLAHOMA CITY, Sporting Alert – Russell Westbrook and the Oklahoma City Thunder will play host to the New Orleans Pelicans at Chesapeake Energy Arena.
The Thunder (6-5, 4-2 Home) are on a two-game losing streak after dropping back-to-back outings against the Boston Celtics and Memphis Grizzlies.
Leading scorer Kevin Durant continues to be out with a hamstring injury, but the star forward isn’t expected on the sidelines for much longer
So with Durant out, Westbrook is expected to remain the main contributor for Oklahoma City.
The point guard is averaging 26.7 points, 10.6 assists and 7.7 rebounds per game through 11 games this season, and is coming off a 40 point performance against the Grizzlies.
Westbrook, in that game, shot 13-for-19 from the field and a season-high 68.4 percentage from the field. He also had 14 assists, but committed eight turnovers on the night.
The 27-year-old is expected to keep up his scoring and assisting touches against the Pelicans, but coach Billy Donovan will be hoping that the likes of Serge Ibaka, Dion Waiters, Steven Adams and Enes Kanter, among others – will step up and play their part as well.
Meanwhile, New Orleans (1-10, 0-6 Away) is on a four-game losing streak and with leading contributor Anthony Davis down with another injury, the streak is expected to be extended.
Anthony Davis left the game against the Denver Nuggets with a hurt shoulder injury and the Pelicans went on to lose 115-98.
He is listed as questionable to play against the Thunder, while the game notes have the power forward as a probable starter.
Davis is averaging 22.7 points, 8.4 rebounds, 2.4 blocks per game and shooting 47.7 percent from the floor.
This game will be live on ESPN and streaming live on WatchESPN.
