(Sporting Alert) — Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has opted to start without his captain Steven Gerrard for tonight’s English FA Cup clash with Oldham at Boundary Park.
The England international, however, has been named on the substitutes bench and will be available if needed during the game.
Meanwhile, Liverpool named strikers Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge in its attack, with Rodgers looking to avoid any slip-ups after seeing some of his fellow Premier League colleagues making costly mistakes in defeats during their FA Cup fixtures on Saturday.
In fact, Suarez will serve as captain in today’s fourth-round tie, while Fabio Borini, Martin Skrtel, Raheem Sterling and Joe Allen all starting as well.
But there was no place in the starting line-up again for veteran defender Jamie Carragher, who was named to the bench.
Meanwhile, Oldham has recalled Lee Croft and Robbie Simpson to their starting line up for the clash.
