LIVERPOOL (Sporting Alert) — Captain and leading centre-back Nemanja Vidic is not injured, but has been rested for today’s Barclays Premier League clash at Anfield, officials around the club are saying.
Vidic was shockingly excluded from the United starting XI and his absence from the team all together sparked further reasons to believe that the Serbian could have been carrying an injury to be left out of such a big fixture.
So with the skipper missing, Sir Alex Ferguson opted to go ahead with Jonny Evans and Rio Ferdinand in the starting team, but didn’t pick another center-back on the bench.
There have been suggestions that Vidic is being rested for Manchester United’s Capital One Cup third round clash with Newcastle United on Wednesday.
But this surely can’t be Ferguson’s reason and many will be looking to the post match comments to hear the real reason for his choice.
The game also sees Anders Lindegaard coming in goal to replace David de Gea, who will start on Wednesday.
