LONDON (Sporting Alert) — Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has fired back at Jose Mourinho, claiming that the Real Madrid boss is being just jealous.
Despite having a star-studded team, Mancini watched his Manchester City squad crashing out of the Champions League for the second successive season – an exit that drew criticism from Mourinho, who said if it was his Madrid side that was dumped, he would have been sacked.
But an angry Mancini says he doesn’t care what the former Chelsea boss wants to say as he is only full of jealousy.
“Mourinho is not my chairman. He is not my owner. What Mourinho said is for me not interesting,” the Italian coach was quoted as saying.
“Mourinho wants to talk about everything. For me, it is not important.
“Sometimes it could be (jealousy). But I will not stay here 20 years. In this moment, I am here and we are working well.”
Mancini added: “I am happy to work with my owners and chairman. They are good men, they understand.
“They know it is impossible to win every game. When we lose, they are disappointed like me, or the players. We can’t be happy; we went out of the Champions League.
“But we are not Real Madrid, Manchester United, or Bayern Munich, who used to win every year for 100 years. We are Manchester City. For 35 years we didn’t win; in two years, we won three trophies.”
Manchester City will face Chelsea in a vital Premier League game on Sunday, a match that will see Chelsea new boss Rafa Benitez making his debut.
