SAN ANTONIO (Sporting Alert) — The Los Angeles Lakers survived an injury hit season to book their place in the NBA 2013 playoff, following a series of wins that saw them claiming the seventh-seeded slot in the Western Conference.
Without the injured Kobe Bryant, who is out for the rest of the season, the Lakers won a difficult last two games, including Wednesday’s clash with the Houston Rockets to setup a series date with second-seed San Antonio Spurs.
In fact, Los Angeles defeated the Spurs 91-86 on Sunday in the first game since Bryant’s injury and then battled to an overtime 99-95 victory over the Rockets three nights later.
The win saw them jump over Houston into the 7th slot and avoid the Oklahoma City Thunder.
San Antonio has not been in the best of form recently, losing seven of its last 10, including its last three.
The playoff first round Game 1 in the Lakers v Spurs series is on Sunday in Texas and will be broadcast live on ABC, starting at 3:30 p.m. ET.
Game 2 is on Wednesday at 9:30 p.m. ET on TNT, with Los Angeles getting the next two on April 26 and 28.
This series is predicted to go to six games, with San Antonio backed to win 4-2.
