Golden State (12-0) will put its undefeated start to the season on the line against the LA Clippers (6-4) when they make the trip to Staples Center.
Reigning MVP Stephen Curry, who is averaging 33.7 points per game and shooting 52.1 percent from the floor, scored 31 points when these two teams met earlier this season, a game the Warriors won 112-108 on November 4.
Over the last three games, Curry has shot 52.0 percent from the floor and is averaging 39 points per game.
As a team, the defending champions are leading the NBA in Points scored per game (114.2) and assists (29.6).
Meanwhile, the Clippers come into the game on the back of a four-day break, having not played since beating Detroit on Nov. 14.
It might have given some of the club’s key players time to get some needed rest, although star guards Chris Paul and J.J. Redick remain doubtful.
Head coach Doc Rivers admitted on Wednesday that both players were still battling with injuries.
Paul missed the last two games with a groin problem, while Redick has also been sidelined for the past two games with back troubles.
Reports in several media outlets in Los Angeles claimed that the two players are expected to be on the sidelines for this battle.
If Paul and Redick are indeed out against the Warriors, the Clippers will be banking more on leading scorer Blake Griffin, who is averaging 26.6 points and 9.0 rebounds per game this campaign.
In the defeat to Golden State at the top of this month, Blake had 23 points, 10 rebounds and six assists.
Jamal Crawford, who scored 37 points in the 101-96 victory over the Pistons, in addition to DeAndre Jordan, Josh Smith, Paul Peirce, Austin Rivers and Lance Stephenson, will all need to step up more in support of Griffin.
The Warriors have been regarded as perhaps the most complete team in the NBA this season, so the Clippers will need to look beyond just the Curry threat.
In the first meeting this season between these two sides, all five starters for Golden State scored in double-figures, and four of them are averaging at least 12 points per game through the first dozen games.
In the meantime, LeBron James and Cleveland look to snap a two-game losing streak against the team the skid started with, the Bucks.
The Cavaliers saw its eight-game winning streak cut down by Milwaukee (5-6) in a 108-105 lost five days, and NBA finalists weren’t too impressive the two-days ago in a 104-99 defeat to the Pistons.
James called out his fellow teammates after the defeat, saying they were “too nice” and didn’t play tough enough.
“We are too relaxed and too nice,” the four-time MVP said. “We need to get tougher, but I’m not talking about being an iron man.
“You have to be mentally tough, and that means performing at the best of your abilities at all times. We’ve got some guys who do that all the time, and some guys who don’t.”
On Thursday, James added: “I’m not sitting up here saying it’s Armageddon or anything like that. But we need to play better ball.”
