Montgomery, Ala. (Sporting Alert, NAIA) — Martin Methodist (Tenn.) caused a major upset in the 2013 NAIA Men’s Soccer National Championship – Second Round – Monday, after the No. 16 team thrashed No. 1 Grand View (Iowa), 5-0 at Emory Folmar YMCA Soccer Complex.
Canadian forward Sean Dong scored a hat-trick for Martin Methodist (Tenn.), which sent the top-seeded Grand View packing from the national championships.
Victory means Martin Methodist advances to the quarterfinals and setup a date to play the winner of No. 8 Belhaven (Miss.) and No. 9 MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.) at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
For the No. 1 Grand View (Iowa), the 2013 competition ends in disappointment, after being eliminated from the championship and ends its season 19-3-0.
