MELBOURNE, Australia — Latest results from the 2018 Australian Open Grand Slam Men’s Singles matches on Monday’s Day 1 on Jan. 15.

Top-seed Rafael Nadal beat Victor Estrella Burgos of the Dominican Republic, 6-1 6-1 6-1 to cruise into the second round of the tournament on Monday.

The Spaniard wanted to test his form entering the competition and he showed that he’s certainly one of the top contenders for the title.

World number three Grigor Dimitrov also progressed to the second round with an easy victory in the first round over Austria’s Dennis Novak, 6-3 6-2 6-1.

Nadal will face Leonardo Mayer and Dimitrov will take on Mackenzie McDonald in the Australian Open second round.

Elsewhere, seeded players Jack Sock, the No. 8 seed and No. 16 John Isner crashed out of the tournament.

Leaving the competition in the first round as well were Croatian Borna Coric and Kevin Anderson of South Africa.

Seeded men Marin Cilic, Nick Kyrgios, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Denis Shapovalov were among those advancing.
