HOOVER, Ala. – The seventh-seeded Ole Miss picked up a narrow victory over 10th seed Missouri in Tuesday’s single-elimination matchup in the 2019 SEC Baseball Tournament at Hoover Met. Stadium in Alabama.
The Rebels used their dominant pitching and quality defensive plays to cling on for a 2-1 win and advanced to the second round.
With the win, Ole Miss also improved its overall season record to 34-24 on the year and avenges a series loss earlier this year in Colombia, Missouri, against the Tigers.
Will Ethridge was fantastic on the day, going 7.0 innings with just one run allowed on six strikeouts and zero walks on his way to earning his sixth win of the season and improving to 6-6 this term.
Relief pitcher Tyler Myers was also perfect in one inning today, as he struck out the side in the eighth inning to wrap up the win for the Rebels.
Missouri struck first with back-to-back doubles by Thomas Broyles and Austin James to plate the game’s first run in the top of the second.
Ole Miss responded when Jacob Adams knotted the game at one at the bottom of the 5th before Thomas Dillard scored the win after Cole Zabowski drove a single to center field in the same inning.
Tuesday’s win sees Ole Miss moving into double-elimination play and will next play against second-seeded Arkansas in Wednesday’s game two.
The Rebels beat the then-No. 8 ranked Razorbacks 2-1 in a three-game series in Fayetteville earlier this year so this matchup is expected to be a very interesting one.
Arkansas was not involved in Tuesday’s single-elimination matchups, having received a bye in the tournament and enters in the second round.
In another 2019 SEC Baseball Tournament single-elimination matchup result on Tuesday, No. 6 Texas A&M holds off No. 11 Florida 8-7 in the earlier game.
