No. 4 Ashford (Iowa) beat No. 5 Rio Grande (Ohio) in NAIA Men’s Soccer Nationals

No. 4 Ashford (Iowa) eliminated No. 5 Rio Grande (Ohio) from the 2013 NAIA Men’s Soccer National Championship in quarterfinals, following a 5-1 victory on Wednesday at Emory Folmar YMCA Soccer Complex in Montgomery, Ala.

Montgomery, Ala. (Sporting Alert) — No. 4 Ashford (Iowa) eliminated No. 5 Rio Grande (Ohio) from the 2013 NAIA Men’s Soccer National Championship in quarterfinals, following a 5-1 victory on Wednesday at Emory Folmar YMCA Soccer Complex in Montgomery, Ala.

German forward Daniel Dreier was on target twice for Ashford (Iowa), who had defeated No. 13 Baker (Kan.), 3-2 in overtime play on Monday.

The victory means that Ashford advances to the semifinals and will play the victor of the clash between Martin Methodist (Tenn.) and Belhaven (Miss.) at 12 noon Friday.

Rio Grande is eliminated from the championship and ends its season 17-2-3.
