MATCH REPORT: Real Madrid Beat Barcelona 3-1 In End-to-End El Clasico

By:Reporting by WALTER-HOYOS Published on: October 24, 2020 1:38 pm Leave a Comment

Real Madrid beat Barcelona 3-1 in Saturday’s El Clasico in the Nou Camp to move six points clear of their rivals in the La Liga standings.

Both teams started positive and scored in the first 10 minutes of the encounter.

However, Real Madrid went ahead through a Sergio Ramos penalty and then Luka Modric sealed the win late on, as Zinedine Zidane side jumped to 13 points, two ahead of Real Sociedad and Villarreal.

With the defeat, Lionel Messi and Barcelona remain 10th in La Liga standings on seven points.

Federico Valverde gave Real Madrid the lead with a fifth-minute strike, but Ansu Fati became the youngest ever El Clasico scorer just three minutes later when he guided home from close range.

Ramos won and scored a penalty from a Clement Lenglet’s shirt-tug to put Real ahead in the 63rd minute, before Modric’s cool and composed finish wrapped up a deserved win for the visitors in the 90th minute.

The margin could have been larger had it not been for some impressive saves late by goalkeeper Neto.

“It was the plan for the game to have control of the game,” Barcelona head coach Ronald Koeman said after the match. “We changed Leo’s position, put Ansu as a reference point.

“Tried to look for space behind Madrid’s defence and have players on the wide with good ball control, going between lines and one reference up front. Can be happy in that sense, we played well.

“When you’re losing, we have to try and improve and create chances to score with the players on the pitch.

“We opted to freshen things up wide with Ousmane [Dembele] and [Francisco] Trincao, to get in one-on-one positions with more speed. Antoine [Griezmann] too up front with Leo. Then try from the 35th minute to take risks.”

It was an important victory for Zidane, who was under pressure after two shock defeats to newly promoted Cadiz in La Lifa and an under strength Shakhtar Donestsk in the Champions League in midweek.

Former Real Madrid president Lorenzo Sanz passes away after testing positive for Covid-19

By:Sports Desk Published on: March 21, 2020 8:13 pm Leave a Comment

MADRID – Former Real Madrid president Lorenzo Sanz has died aged 76, his son Lorenzo said on Saturday.

The former Real president was taken to hospital on Tuesday, with newspaper El Mundo saying he had been suffering from the novel coronavirus.

His son, Fernando, who played for Madrid as a central defender and was succeeded as president by Florentino Perez in 2000, said his father had a respiratory disease.

Sanz presided over the club between 1995 and 2000, in which they won two Champions League titles and one La Liga crown among other trophies.

Their 1998 Champions League triumph was the first time they had won Europe’s top prize, which they have lifted a record 13 times, in 32 years.

“My father has just passed away. He didn’t deserve it to end this way. One of the most brave and hard working people who I have known in my life has left us,” Lorenzo Sanz Jr. said on Twitter.

Meanwhile, reports in Italy is also claiming that AC Milan technical director and former International defender Paolo Maldini also tested positive.

His son Daniel, 18, who plays for Milan’s youth team, also had a positive test.

News also broke on Saturday that Juventus forward Paulo Dybala tested positive for the disease and so did his girlfriend.

Klopp Dismisses Liverpool Move For Real Madrid Forward Bale

By:Reporting by Ron Snyder The Liverpool Man Published on: July 24, 2019 4:05 pm Leave a Comment

NEW YORK, Sporting Alert — Gareth Bale has been heavily linked with a move away from Real Madrid this summer but Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has rubbished reports about him making a move for the Welshman.

Bale looks certain to leave the Spanish giants this summer following a public spat with returning head coach Zinedine Zidane, who admitted that the forward is not in his future plans.

Despite winning four European Cups and a La Liga crown since making his £85 million move from Tottenham in 2013, Bale has been told by Zidane that he should to leave the club.

Several of the top clubs in Europe, including Manchester United, Tottenham and Bayern Munich have been strongly linked with the Real Madrid outcast, but Klopp has dismissed media talk of Liverpool plotting a move — acknowledging that he would be ‘outstandingly expensive’ for the English Premier League side.

“Bale will be outstandingly expensive,” the German tactician told Sky Sports News ahead of his club’s pre-season match against Sporting Lisbon.

“These fantastic football players have some strange ideas. I respect them all so much, but they probably only say these things because somebody asked them.

“Bale is a Real Madrid player and if he leaves it will be outstandingly expensive and big wages.”

Barcelona Offer PSG £90m Plus Two Players For Neymar – Reports

Klopp said Liverpool’s target this summer is to build a complete team rather than signing individuals.

“He is an outstanding player, I like him a lot but it is not about him. You have to create a team,” the manager said. “A team is not a collection of the best individual players, they have to work together.

“Liverpool is a long-term project. The team is really good. Will there be difficult situations?

“Probably. There would be if we bring in a new player, or two or three. I didn’t say we won’t do anything, it is going to be a big window for sure but people don’t think about the people who are already in.

“Sometimes you have to calm the situation down, pay your bills, have a normal life and live in the house before you build a new one.”

Bale has been reportedly wanted in China, but the former Tottenham attacker has been warned that he needs to stay in Europe is he wants to continue being effective.

Real Madrid are looking to sell the player and has ruled out a loan move.

Liverpool will take on Sporting Lisbon at Yankee Stadium on Wednesday night.

Paul Ince Backs Liverpool Bale Move

Meanwhile, former Liverpool midfielder Paul Ince recently backed the Reds to sign Bale, but is also concerned about his fee.

“My opinion is if Liverpool can afford him, he should go there,” Ince, who who played 81 times for the Anfield club in the 1990s, told BBC Radio 5 Live.

“Liverpool’s front three haven’t had much rest before the season – Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane have played all over the summer.

“Bale can play right, left or central. If I was looking at a team if they could afford him, it would be Liverpool. He needs to re-invent himself as a player and play football week in, week out.

“He would have to take a massive wage drop. It can’t be about money for Bale. He has to go to a team who can win things.”

Ince added: “Liverpool are European champions and they want to make a massive challenge in the league again.

“Who else could afford him? Man City maybe, Man United and I don’t think Tottenham would be the right club.

“I would like to see him at Liverpool. He still has four or five years left. I think he’d be a perfect fit.”

Meanwhile, Real Madrid will aim to add further misery to what has been a very challenging preseason for Mourinho by beating Manchester United in Julen Lopetegui’s debut at the helm.

It will be the third time that Manchester United and Real Madrid will face-off in the International Champions Cup.

By:Reporting by WALTER-HOYOS Published on: July 5, 2018 10:46 am Leave a Comment

Cristiano Ronaldo is almost certain to leave Real Madrid for Juventus, according to Sky Sports Spanish correspondent Guillem Balague.

Balague revealed on his YouTube channel that a deal has been agreed between Real Madrid and Juventus to sign Ronaldo, with the Italian champions “willing to pay €100m.”

“The story comes out, leaked in my opinion from Ronaldo’s camp. Everything is agreed with Juventus, who are willing to pay €100m,” Balague said.

“And this is now a game of poker with Ronaldo saying ‘I’m going’ and Real saying, ‘OK, you can go!’

“But the chord is being so stretched that at some point it could break in a way that has never happened before.”

Balague has also admitted that Ronaldo has never been so close to leaving Real Madrid.

Real Madrid Not Signing Mbappe, Spanish Club Claims

By:Ben Rummage | Staff Writer Published on: July 4, 2018 11:45 am Leave a Comment

MOSCOW — Real Madrid are definitely in the market for a top player this summer.

However, the Spanish giants have denied making an offer for France forward Kylian Mbappe from Paris Saint-Germain.

It has been widely circulated in the media that the Champions League title holder want to sign a player to replace star man Cristiano Ronaldo, who apparently is frustrated with life in Spain and is ready to leave.

But despite admitting that they are looking to bolster the squad for the coming season, Real Madrid issued a statement denying that an agreement has been met to sign Mbappe.

“Real Madrid has not made any offers to PSG or the player and regrets the dissemination of this type of information,” a club statement read.

The statement continued: “Given the information published in the last hours referring to an alleged agreement between Real Madrid CF and PSG for player Kylian Mbappe, Real Madrid says they are flatly false.”

According to Spanish publication AS on Wednesday, which cited tweets by a French journalist, an offered of £240 million was agreed to sign the 19-year-old Mbappe from PSG.

Mbappe and France will take on Brazil in the highlighted quarterfinal game of the tournament.

Now, this comes only a couple of days after the club rejected a report suggesting that it made an offer to purchase Neymar from PSG for a world-record transfer of over £300 million

Real Madrid hired Spain coach Julen Lopetegui to take over after the World Cup, but the announcement was made on the eve of the start of the tournament and the Spanish FA summarily fired him, claiming that the proper protocol was not followed.

Lopetegui, who replaced Zinedine Zidane as the new boss at Real Madrid, is looking for reinforcements and he believes his main area of interest is in the forward line.

Real Madrid To Swap Ronaldo For Manchester United’s Lukaku – Reports

By:Marcus-Bloxam Football Contributor Published on: June 29, 2018 12:44 am Leave a Comment

LONDON — The Daily Star in the UK is reporting that Real Madrid are interested in a swap deal for Manchester United forward Romelu Lukaku this summer.

According to the newspaper, Real Madrid are looking to bolster their attack for coming season and have identified Lukaku as the ideal man to lead the forward line, as a replacement for Karim Benzema.

It is understood that Ronaldo would like to leave the Spanish side this summer and the Daily Star claims Los Blancos are ready to offer the Portugal international in what would be a massive swap deal with his former club, Manchester United.

Diario Gol claims that Real Madrid are apparently ready to offer Manchester United £44m and Ronaldo for Lukaka.

Both players are currently with their respective international teams preparing for the round of 16 phase of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

Ronaldo and Lukaka have also scored four goals apiece at the World Cup, with the latter playing just two of the three matches in the group round.

Lukaku has a productive first season with Manchester United last term, following his move from Everton, scoring 27 goals in all competitions.

The 25-year-old is also the all-time leading goalscorer in the history of Les Diables Rouges and has been rated highly by former Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho, who is now at Old Trafford.

Ronaldo, who helped Real Madrid win three successive Champions League title this past May, has been impressive in Russia – scoring a hat-trick in the 3-3 draw with Spain the opening game of the tournament for both nations.

It is understood the Ronaldo would be interested in a return to Manchester United and the English Premier League and there are also reports suggesting that contact has been made between the Red Devils and the Spanish side.

No transfer would happen until after the World Cup was concluded.
