Alabama Stays No. 1 In AP Rankings; FSU Slips To No. 1: Week 2

MIAMI, FL, Sporting Alert — Alabama stayed as the No. 1 team in the country when the 2017 College Football Top 25 first regular season poll was released on Tuesday.

The Crimson Tide are the top ranked squad again after picking up 60 of the 61 first-place votes from the media panel, following the impressive display which saw them topping Florida State 24-7 in the season opener for both teams on Saturday.

Ohio State, which eased to a 49-21 victory at Indiana in Week 1, remains No. 2 in the AP poll and received the only other first-place vote for 1,445 points.

Defending national champion Clemson moved up to two places to No. 3, Penn State is No. 4 after climbing two spots as well, while Oklahoma jumped to No. 5 with a two place move from its preseason slot.

Southern California fell two places to No. 6 after a less-than-expected close encounter with Western Michigan in Week 1.

Washington is No. 7, Michigan is up three spots to No. 8 after beating beat Florida, which slipped five spots to No. 22. Wisconsin is No. 9 in the latest rankings.

Meanwhile, Florida State, which loses starting quarterback Deondre Francois for the rest of the season with an injury, shifted from No. 3 all the way to No. 10 after the loss to Alabama.

Oklahoma State is No. 11 and it is followed by LSU, Auburn, Stanford and Georgia in the Top 15.

TCU moves into the AP Top 25 rankings this week at No. 23, while Notre Dame, who was among the bubbled teams in the preseason rankings, is also in the rankings at No. 24 after defeating Temple 49-16 in the opener.

Elsewhere, West Virginia dropped out of the rankings after losing its season opener to Virginia Tech, which moved up three places to No. 18.

Texas also fell from the rankings after losing at home to Maryland and did not even receive a single vote this week.

The Longhorns started the season as the No. 23 team.
