NEW YORK (Sporting Alert) — Carmelo Anthony scored 36 points in guiding the New York Knicks to an 85-78 victory over the Boston Celtics in Game 1 of their NBA playoff series on Saturday.

Anthony, who recently claimed his first ever regular season scoring title, shot 13-for-29 from the field, including 4-of-6 from three-point range, while grabbing six rebounds and four steals for New York.

“This is a big game for us to go get, it’s on our homecourt,” Anthony said.

“We didn’t do nothing except protect our homecourt. We gotta do the same thing in Game 2.”

J.R. Smith added 15 points and five rebounds, while Raymond Felton ended with 13 points, six assists and four boards in the victory.

Jeff Green scored 26 points and pulled down seven rebounds Paul Pierce added 21 for the Celtics, who led 53-49 at half-time.

Avery Bradley finished with 15 points, but star center Kevin Garnett was held for just eight-points and nine boards.

The Boston Celtics bench went 0-for-7 from the field, with only Courtney Lee, who knocked down four free throws left the game with points for the reserves.

Game 2 in the series is on Tuesday night again at Madison Square Garden.
