The AP Top 25 scores from the men’s college basketball games that took place on Monday night, December 12. Fresh off the latest release of the AP Top 25 rankings for Week 6, the No. 7 Texas Longhorns and the No. 15 Gonzaga Bulldogs both picked wins.
Texas (8-1), which fell five spots in the national rankings, collected a tough 87-81 overtime win over Rice at the Moody Center in Austin, to improve to 7-0 at home. The win came on the same day its head coach Chris Beard was arrested on a felony domestic violence charge and then suspended indefinitely without pay after his release. Assistant Rodney Terry took charge of the game.
Marcus Carr, who is a sixth-year guard, scored 28 points to lead the way for Texas. Timmy Allen added 15 points, Dillon Mitchell ended with 12 points, nine rebounds, and three steals and Jabari Rice ended with 11 points for the Longhorns, who shot 50% (32-64) from the field. Quincy Olivari scored 28 points with five rebounds and four assists for Rice, which missed a potential game-winner in the final seconds of regulation.
Travis Evee added 19 points and five boards, while Max Fiedler finished with 10 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists for Owls (6-3).
Meanwhile, Gonzaga came out on top against Northern Illinois, 88-67 with Drew Timme scoring 26 points and six rebounds to extend the nation’s longest home win streak to 71 games.
Ben Gregg had a career-high 18 points and seven rebounds for the Bulldogs (8-3), while fellow reserve Malachi Smith ended with 14 points and six rebounds in the win.
Keshawn Williams scored 25 points with eight rebounds for Northern Illinois (3-7), and Anthony Crump added 20 points and eight boards for the Huskies.
