Arsenal 2 vs Tottenham 0, recap, stats, highlights

LONDON (15 Jan) — Arsenal beat Tottenham 2-0 to go eight points clear at the top of the Premier League on Sunday. Both goals came in the first half as the Gunners completed the league double over Spurs this season. Stats Today

Many have been asking if Antonio Conte is the right man to carry Tottenham forward for the rest of the season, or should Daniel Levy become a little braver.

One thing is for sure, Tottenham supporters were not having it!

“Not a chance for top four this season,” one fan shouted. ” This is not good enough. I am fed up with Conte and Levy.”

On the pitch on Sunday, Arsenal took full advantage of Manchester City’s defeat at Manchester United on Saturday by blanking Tottenham 2-0 in a north London derby at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to move eight points clear at the top of the Premier League table standings.

Goalkeeper Hugo Lloris continued his disappointing run of form this season by scoring an own goal to hand Arsenal the lead in the 14th minute when he clumsily spilled a Bukayo Saka cross into his own goal.

The Gunners doubled their lead in the 36th minute through Martin Odegaard, who netted the second from a long-range effort as Tottenham lost ground on the top four after sliding five points behind fourth-place Manchester United.

After the game, Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale was confronted and kicked in the back by a Spurs fan, an incident that the authorities will check.

The win sealed Arsenal’s first Premier League away victory over Spurs since 2014.

Antonio Conte’s side improved in the second half, but there was no comeback today.

Arsenal now lead the standings with 47pts ahead of second place Manchester City (39), Newcastle United (38) and Manchester United (38). Tottenham Hotspur are on 33pts.
