(Sporting Alert) — Lukas Podolski scored twice in the first half against his former club and Arsenal cruised past Cologne 4-0 in a friendly game on Germany on Sunday.
Podolski, who made the move from Cologne to London in the summer, gave the Gunners a 2-0 in the 15th minute from the penalty spot after Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was brought down in the penalty, this was after Thomas Vermaelen had opened the scoring in the seventh minute with a powerful header.
Arsenal then went 3-0 up just before the break, when he finished off a nice play from Kieran Gibbs down the left hand side.
Substitute Gervinho added another goal on the hour mark, when he cut in prior to slotting home at the near post.
Also picking up a win on Sunday in preseason action was Liverpool, which beat Bayer Leverkusen 3-1.
Raheem Sterling, Lucas Leiva and Andrew Carroll gave the Barclays Premier League side a 3-0 lead before Sidney Sam pulled one back for Leverkusen.
