Monreal, who has had an impressive start to his Arsenal career, signed from Malaga and played in the group stages of the tournament.

Meanwhile, French defender Laurent Koscielny is doubtful for the game with a calf problem, but Carl Jenkinson is back after a one-game suspension and Per Mertesacker is also back in the squad.

“What has changed is that Monreal is not available,” manager Arsene Wenger said on Arsenal.com.

“Mertesacker will be back in the squad and there is an uncertainty about Koscielny.

“Jenkinson is also available again.”

After losing to Blackburn in the English FA Cup on Saturday, Wenger is expected to name a strong side with sources saying Gervinho is one of the players set to lose his starting place from the team at the weekend.

Bayern Munich, in the meantime, will be without defender Jerome Boateng, who misses the game because of suspension, after being sent off in his club’s previous Champions League tie.

Also out of the game are Holger Badstuber, who continues his recovery from a cruciate ligament injury and striker Claudio Pizarro (angina).

The clash sees former Bayern Munich player Lukas Podolski going up against his ex-club and FCB chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge is looking forward to the reunion with the new Arsenal striker.

“I’m looking forward to meeting up with him, but I’m hoping he doesn’t score against us,” said Rummenigge.

“He should think it over very carefully.”
