LONDON (Sporting Alert) — Arsenal FC manager Arsene Wenger has vowed to play a strong side in today’s Capital One Cup clash at Coral Windows Stadium against Bradford.
In the past Wenger field a team with less experience in order to give several of his first choice players more time to recover for the regular Barclays Premier League fixture that would usually follow that same weekend.
But with Arsenal not featuring in the Premier League until next Monday when they travel to face Reading, Wenger promised to play a more experienced team in the quarter-final clash.
“We will have an experience squad at Bradford,” Wenger confirmed on the Arsenal FC official website at www.arsenal.com.
“As always, we’ll have a side that has a good chance to go through. We know that in England, you need to be ready when you go into a cup game of this intensity.
“Of course we want to take our chance and go through to the semi-final.
“We have a good recovery time ahead of the game at Reading on Monday. So we can use the players we want to use.”
The Gunners, though, will be without striker Olivier Giroud, who will miss the game after picking a back injury.
“The only new player who is not available is Olivier Giroud,” Wenger confirmed. “He got a kick on his back on Saturday. He has not recovered and he will be out.”
Theo Walcott (calf) and a number of other players, including Laurent Koscielny (thigh) and Andre Santos (stomach muscle) – will also miss the game tonight as they continue to recover.
“Theo is still out. Along with Diaby, Santos, Koscielny,” the experienced Frenchman said.
