Jack Wilshere set to return for Arsenal

NEWCASTLE (Sporting Alert) — Jack Wilshere returns from suspension, but Arsenal will be without Aaron Ramsey for their Premier League trip to Newcastle United on Sunday.

Wilshere missed the last two outing for Arsenal after he was banned following the defeat at Manchester City, but could come straight into the team as a replacement for the injured Ramsey, who will miss the contest because of a thigh strain.

The Wales midfielder suffered the injury during the Boxing Day come from behind 3-1 victory against West Ham.

French centre-half Laurent Koscielny could earn a recall after he recovered from a knee injury, while Tomas Rosicky is again available after being rested for the West Ham victory.

German forward Lukas Podolski is also pushing for a starting place after impressing as a goalscorer off the bench in the last outing.

Arsenal will be hoping to secure three points as they seek to return the top of the Premier League standings. Manchester City frog leaped them on Saturday and leads the league by three points.

For Newcastle United, meanwhile, the same core that hammered Stoke City 5-1 on Boxing Day is available again, while midfielder Cheick Tiote returns to the squad from suspension.

A victory for Newcastle United at St James’ Park could see them climbing into the top four.
