Arsenal Transfer Reports: Wenger bids for Barcelona’s David Villa

MADRID (Sporting Alert) Arsenal FC have made a formal approach to sign FC Barcelona striker David Villa in the January window, media outlets on Friday are saying.

And if this is true then give Arsenal credit for attempting to take risk.

Chelsea had reportedly shown interest in signing the forward as well, but went with Demba Ba instead.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger admits that he’s looking to sign players for every position and it is believed that Spain’s record goalscorer Villa is high on his list of targets.

Villa, according to reports have been growing frustrated with the lack of playing time at Camp Nou and is looking for a way out to play first team football again.

With Robin van Persie leaving to join Manchester United in the summer, the Gunners have been struggling to find a proven goalscorer even though the club brought in players at the end of the season.

Reports in England and in Spain have suggested that although Villa has been no where near the scoring form he had before breaking his foot, Wenger is willing to pay £14million to land the Barcelona star.

It is also understood that Villa would be interested in listening to any good offers, despite reportedly telling his representatives that he would rather stay with Barcelona until the rest of the season.

Wenger is certainly looking to go the extra mile as the likes of Gervinho, Theo Walcott and Olivier Giroud doesn’t look like they will win Arsenal trophies anytime soon.

  1. Constantly on the wing can not, as in Barcelona, and in the center and in combination game – the best option is not there.
Del Bosque, when Villa lost at European, generally preferred to play without a striker – that says a lot.
