As expected, Alexis Sanchez, who only recently joined the Gunners for pre-season, will not be involved as manager Arsene Wenger doesn’t think the reported wantaway Chilean is fit enough to feature.

Also missing from the matchday squad are German playmaker Mesut Ozil and defender Shkodran Mustafi, while fellow defender Laurent Koscielny, who who could have played today – was not named to the squad, as he is suspended for the first two games of the new Premier League season.

Meanwhile, summer recruit Alexandre Lacazette leads the attack for Arsenal after a very productive pre-season.

The Frenchman will be joined by Danny Welbeck and Alex Iwobi in the three man attack as Wenger looks to get his season off with on a winning note.

Mohamed Elneny and Granit Xhaka and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will start in midfield with Rob Holding, Per Mertesacker, Nacho Monreal and Hector Bellerín protecting Petr Cech in the goal.

Another summer signing Sead Kolasinac is on the bench, along with Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Reiss Nelson, Olivier Giroud, Theo Walcott and Joe Willock.

In Chelsea team news, Michy Batshuayi takes over as the man to lead the frontline for the Blues is the absence of Diego Costa, who is almost certain to leave the club.

However, Chelsea’s record signing Alvaro Morata will start this one on the bench, alongside fellow new boy Antonio Rudiger.

Willy Caballero, Charly Musonda, Andreas Christensen, Kyle Scott and Jeremie Boga are all on the bench as well for Chelsea.

Arsenal manager Wenger said ahead of kick-off: “For us, it is just a good opportunity to repeat the performance from the FA Cup final.

“I would say that Chelsea look like they have kept the basis of 95% of their squad. They have added Tiemoue Bakayoko, who is a very strong player, a strong ball-winner, similar to Nemanja Matic, maybe less of a distance runner but more of an impact player – but certainly they will fight for the championship again.

“They have replaced Costa with Morata. Morata is maybe less of a goalscorer than Costa, but he can score and provide as well.”

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is taking this on seriously: “It was a pity to lose the FA Cup final against Arsenal after a really great season for us.

“Now there is another game. We know very well Arsenal are a strong team.

“We are expecting a difficult game and we want to start the season with a win.

“I think the friendlies have ended for us. This is an official game and the first trophy of the season. It’s an important game, for sure.”
