LONDON (Sporting Alert) — Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Theo Walcott will miss Arsenal’s Champions League clash with Schalke 04 on Wednesday because of injuries.
Walcott has been out since suffering a bruised lung which on international duty with England and has been out for the last two weeks.
The forward remains out and still remains doubtful until early next month.
Oxlade-Chamberlain, in the meantime, picked up a hip injury in the 1-0 Barclays Premier League defeat to Norwich at Carrow Road on Saturday and will not be available for the game.
“It was a kick on his hip. It is not long-term. But he will be out for Wednesday,” manager Arsene Wenger said on Arsenal FC official website at www.arsenal.com.
Wenger added: “I don’t see anyone new being [back] for Wednesday night. The closest will be Gibbs but he will not be ready. Walcott will not be ready [either].”
Arsenal edged Montpellier 2-1 in its opening round game before easing past Olympiakos 3-1 in the second game to sit atop of Group B on maximum six-points.
Schalke will travel to Emirates Stadium with three points in mind as the visitors look to overtake the Gunners in the group standings.
