Philadelphia, USA (Sporting Alert) — Former World 100 metres record holder Asafa Powell will make a “special appearance” at this year’s Penn Relays.

Telecommunication company LIME, who has been an active member in track and field in the Caribbean, made the confirmation about one of its brand ambassador.
Powell, like world record holder Usain Bolt, will compete at the meeting, but rather – will be making the trip to Philadelphia as part of the company’s “experience for fans during the final day of the Games.”
“Asafa is one of the most loved athletic stars in the world so we are very happy that he will be part of our connection with our friends and family members who are away from home,” says Grace Silvera, LIME’s Regional VP, Marketing & Corporate Communications.
“The ‘Penn Relays’ is a highly anticipated event so LIME and Asafa on the ground is brawta for the fans.
“Both Asafa and Yohan Blake [world 100m champion], our newest brand ambassador, will feature prominently in our activities around Jamaica 50 and the 2012 London Olympics.
“Our support of Team Jamaica Bickle and Asafa’s appearance at the Penn Relays is part of building the momentum as we prepare to celebrate this special period in out our nation’s history,” she added.
The Penn Relays will feature several athletes from the around the round – including Jamaica, USA, Canada, and several African stars.
As usual, the USA v World contest will be the high point of the meeting for the international viwers, with the likes of Justin Gatlin, Lashawn Merritt and Walter Dix of USA, Kirani James of Grenada, Nesta Carter of Jamaica amongst the men.
Americans, Allyson Felix, Sanya Richards-Ross and Carmelita Jeter, Jamaicans Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, Bailey and Kerron Stewart and several others will head up the women’s side.
Athletes from Belgium, Venezuela, Australia, Bahamas, Virgin Islands, Guyana, Dominican, Netherlands, Ethiopia, Germany, Kenya, Morocco, Nigeria, Russia, Trinidad, Saudi Arabia and United Kingdom will also be on show.
