The reigning EPL champions are struggling for results in the league this season and they are currently lagging in ninth-place on 22 points and the aim is to go on a run during the Christmas period.

Manchester United comes into the game with a few injury problems and will be without striker Robin van Persie, who has been ruled out for a month with a thigh problem.

He joins Marouane Fellaini (back) and Michael Carrick (Achilles), who is out until the new year.

This means Shinji Kagawa is again expected to play behind Wayne Rooney in the attack.

For Aston Villa, midfielder Fabian Delph is out suspended having picked up his fifth yellow card of the season in last week’s 2-0 defeat at Fulham.
