However, in 2014, India has begun strongly with two wins in two matches, and looks well placed to reach the final four again.

Bangladesh will bank on passionate home support to turn its fortunes around after a loss against West Indies, and in conditions that are very familiar, it always poses a threat.

Here is a look at a few facts and key battles ahead of the clash between the two teams on Friday (March 28).

These teams have met once before in T20Is, India winning a group match at the ICC World Twenty20 2009 by 25 runs.

Of those to bowl at least five overs in the tournament, Bhuvneshwar Kumar (4), Shakib Al Hasan (4.23) and Mahmudullah (4.36) have the lowest economy rates.

India is attempting to win its fifth consecutive T20I, which would equal its best winning streak, set in September – October 2007.

Virat Kohli averages 61.2 batting second in T20Is, the highest average of those with at least five second innings dismissals.

Shakib Al Hasan is the leading T20I wicket-taker at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, Mirpur, with eight wickets at an average of 9.8 and strike rate of 10.6.

Approaching Milestones:

Suresh Raina needs 38 runs to pass Gautam Gambhir as India’s leading T20I run-scorer. Yuvraj Singh is 53 runs behind Gambhir on this list.

A defeat for India would make MS Dhoni the first player to suffer 20 T20I defeats as captain.

Rohit Sharma needs 29 runs to become the 10th player to score 500 runs in ICC World Twenty20 matches. Yuvraj Singh is 48 runs short of this landmark.

Key Battles:
Rohit Sharma v Shakib Al Hasan

These players thrive in ICC World Twenty20 tournaments. Rohit Sharma averages 58.9 in the event, the highest average of anyone with at least five dismissals. He has hit five half-centuries in 16 innings, maintaining an impressive strike rate of 130.5.

Shakib is one of four players to have scored 300 runs in the tournament and take 15 wickets, seven of which have come in this event. He has shown flashes of his explosive batting, but he is attempting to bounce back from a Golden Duck against West Indies and is the key man for the hosts.
