Barclays Premier League Results and Scores – Oct, 28

LONDON (Sporting Alert) — Manchester United closed the gap on Chelsea to just one point in the Barclays Premier League after the Red Devils defeated the league leaders 3-2 at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

Chelsea were also forced to play the last 20-minutes of the game with nine-men after defender Branislav Ivanovic and Fernando Torres picked up second half red cards.

Robin van Persie’s vicious strike was deflected in by David Luiz to give Manchester United an early 4th minute lead before the Dutchman doubled the tally with a neat finish from a cross by Antonio Valencia in the 12th minute.

However, Chelsea pulled one back before half-time through Juan Mata, who scored a brilliant free-kick and Ramires, who found the equalizer in the 53rd minute.

Substitute Javier Hernandez scored the winner for Manchester United in the action pack game.

Earlier in the morning, Liverpool and Everton ended 2-2 in the Merseyside derby – a game which saw Luis Suarez scoring and then saw his winner being called off for an incorrect offside call.

An own goal by Leighton Baines and a Suarez gave Liverpool a quick 2-0 lead, but Everton rallied through Leon Osman and Steven Naismith to earn the draw.

Elsewhere, Newcastle beat West Bromwich 2-1, while Tottenham had a similar score over Southampton.

In games on Saturday, defending champions Manchester City edged Swansea 1-0, Arsenal had a similar result over a battling QPR side, while Reading and Fulham played to a thrilling 3-3 tie.
