Manager Roberto Di Matteo is without captain and main defender John Terry, while Ramires, Raul Meireles and Branislav Ivanovic are also out of the game.
Di Matteo left Florent Malouda and Michael Essien out, while Fernando Torres and Daniel Sturridge are also on the bench.
Gary Cahill and David Luiz both start for Chelsea.
Bayern Munich are without Holger Badstuber, David Alaba and Luiz Gustavo.
