BCS college football bowl TV schedule – New Year’s Day 2013

(Sporting Alert)  Florida, Georgia, Florida State, Nebraska, Stanford and Oklahoma State are all amongst the teams playing in BCS college football bowl games on New Year’s Day, Jan. 1.

Amongst the highlighted BCS games on for the New Year are the Rose Bowl Game, the Capital One Bowl, the Discover Orange and Outback Bowl.

The action will start with the TaxSlayer.com Gator Bowl on ESPN 2 with the Mississippi State vs Northwestern game.

Head coach Pat Fitzgerald, in his fifth successive year in charge could achieve two milestones with a victory on Tuesday, as he’s a win away from setting the school record with 50, and one from leading the Wildcats to its first bowl crown in 63 years.

“Since I’ve been here it’s been expected that we go to bowl games,” said linebacker David Nwabuisi.

“It’s about taking that next step and getting that win, then pressing on and getting to the Big Ten championship, setting new goals and standards.”

Another game with interest will be the Northern Illinois Huskies clash against Florida State at Sun Life Stadium in Miami.

Many have questioned the stalemate of Northern Illinois in the famous Discover Orange Bowl and are eager to see how they will compete.

NIU head coach Rod Carey says his team was delighted when “they found out they were in the Orange Bowl” and were not paying too much attention to the negative comments from the outside.

“How we’re discussing it behind closed doors, I’ll leave that behind closed doors,” Carey commented on the players’ reactions to being in a BCS game.

“But their reaction to being in a BCS bowl is they’re excited, really excited, and they should be.

“My kind of take on how the outside has kind of perceived us, it’s gone from really negative right away, to kind of turned positive, that feel-good story.

“I think it’s all been great because they all talk about NIU. I think that’s a great thing. I think people are responding that way. I think they see it too, what a good thing for NIU.”

Florida State are desperate for a bowl title and will be hoping to capture its first BCS crown since landing the national championship title three-years-ago.

“We need to go win one,” said FSU coach Jimbo Fisher on the school’s official website at www.seminoles.com.

“… we are excited about that and I think it’s another chance for our program to grow playing on the national stage and catapult us into next year with a very experienced team coming back and a very good group of guys.”

Elsewhere on New Year’s Day, the Capital One bowl will see No. 7 Georgia going up against No. 16 Nebraska at Florida Citrus Bowl in Orlando at 1:00 p.m. on ABC.

The Georgia Bulldogs were so close to playing for the national championship, but were pipped out by Alabama.

“We spent ourselves in a worthy cause,” head coach Mark Richt said. “We, of course, wanted to play for a national championship.

“We knew we were just a few yards or a tipped ball, or however you want to say it away from winning it. It was heartbreaking, no doubt.

“We were highly hurt by it. … So you have to kind of get over the heartbreak of that.”

Meanwhile, Wisconsin and Stanford will face-off for the Rose Bowl Game, Purdue and Oklahoma State meet in the Heart of Dallas Bowl and the Outback Bowl setup a date for South Carolina against Michigan.
