MADRID (Sporting Alert) — Karim Benzema scored twice and Real Madrid took a step closer to lifting the Spanish La Liga title with a comfortable 3-0 win over Sevilla at the Bernabeu on Sunday.

Madrid, which were playing for the first time since being dumped on penalties from the Champions League by German side Bayern Munich, took the lead in the 19th minute when Benzema set up strike partner Cristiano Ronaldo for the opener.
Benzema then second two goals in three minutes from close range early into the second half to help Real Madrid opened up a ten-point gap on defending champions Barcelona, which will play later on this afternoon.
Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho played without the likes of Hamit Altintop, Lassana Diarra, Ricardo Carvalho and Nuri Sahin, while Gonzalo Higuain and Kaka don’t play.
Barcelona will look to close gap on their rivals with victory over Rayo Vallecano later, the team, though saddened that manager Pep Guardiola has decided to step down, is still looking to keep the fight going until the final game of the season.
