The Spanish international, the club reported on its website, has not fully recovered a hamstring injury he picked up on international duty and will not be available for the Barclays Premier League contest against Reading.

With Reina not available, it now means that Brad Jones is set to start the game.

The Liverpool starting XI also includes England captain and team leader Steven Gerrard, Luis Suarez, Joe Allen and Suso, who only recently signed a new deal with the club.

Jordan Henderson and Stewart Downing are amongst the substitutes for Liverpool for today’s game.

In Reading team news, the game sees the visitors making two changes from the drew with Swansea City in the last outing.

Midfielders Mikele Leigertwood and Danny Guthrie come into the side to replace Noel Hunt and Jay Tabb.
