LONDON (Sporting Alert) — Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany has passed a late fitness test and will start for the defending champions against Chelsea in the Premier League this evening.
Kompany left the Etihad Stadium on crutches following last Wednesday’s Champions League 1-1 draw with Real Madrid and was doubtful for the contest with a knee problem.
However, the Belgium defender came through his fitness test on Sunday morning and was included in Roberto Mancini’s starting side for the difficult trip at Chelsea.
James Milner also starts for Manchester City for Samir Nasri, while Edin Dzeko and Sergio Aguero leading the forward line once again for the light Blues, who also have Gareth Barry coming in for Maicon.
Manchester City are two points behind rivals Manchester United and can go back on top of the Barclays Premier League table standing with a win over Chelsea, who will be bossed by new manager Rafa Benitez for the first time since taking over last week.
Benitez named Fernando Torres his starting line-up after the Spanish striker was left out of the Champions League starting team last week in the defeat to Juventus – a day before former boss Roberto Di Matteo was fired.
Oscar, Juan Mata, Eden Hazard and Ramires all start the game.
