Bryant suffered a strain to his right foot during Sunday’s 99-92 preseason defeat to the Sacramento Kings at Staples Center and he ruled himself out of Wednesday night’s game.
“Probably not,” he said when asked if he would take the court for game. “It’s pretty sore.”
Bryant missed his second straight day of practice on Tuesday with foot trouble and the team now reports that the All-Star guard will miss the last two preseason games.
Tonight against the Clippers and tomorrow against the Kings again.
Lakers head coach Mike Brown was still uncertain how long the injury will keep Bryant out.
“I don’t know how serious it is. When it comes to Kobe sitting out, it’s got to be bothering him,” Brown said earlier.
“So we’ll be patient with it, and he’ll get it right. The medical staff will get it right, and whenever he’s ready, he’ll come back on the floor.”
Lakers head into the game still searching for their first preseason win, after going 0-6 so far.
Dwight Howard, who was impressive in his debut during the loss to the Kings, will sit out of Wednesday’s game just to rest, the team said. The former Orlando Magic center will play in Thursday’s contest in San Diego.
Pau Gasol and Steve Nash will both start the game again Wednesday.
The Clippers are 3-3 in preseason.
