Cameroon lose to Switzerland at World Cup 2022

AL WAKRAH, Qatar (November) — Breel Embolo scored the only goal of the game and Switzerland beat Cameroon 1-0 in the first game on Day 5 at the World Cup 2022 on Thursday as Group G action got underway today here at the Al Janoub Stadium.

Embolo, who was born in Cameroon before eventually moving from France to Switzerland, scored the winning goal with a right-footed shot in the 48th minute after he found himself all alone and finished off a Xherdan Shaqiri’s pass from eight yards.

As promised the Swiss forward didn’t celebrate scoring against the country where he was born but smiled and held his arms out wide, before raising his hands in a gesture of apology as teammates rushed over to celebrate with him.

The 25-year-old forward who plays in Ligue 1 with AS Monaco, was born in Cameroon but left with his family at the age of five years old where he spent time in France. He then moved to settle in Switzerland.

Action at the World Cup 2022 continues in Group G later Thursday when tournament favorite Brazil and Serbia meet at Lusail Stadium.
