KIEV (Sporting Alert) — Liverpool forward Andy Carroll has been handed a starting place for England for their Euro 2012 clash with Sweden on Friday night.
The 2012 Euro tournament started on Friday, June 8 – games will be televised live on ESPN and its networks, including live streaming on ESPN3.com, ESPNDeportes and WatchESPN.com.
Carroll will start alongside Manchester United’s Danny Welbeck in the forward positions as England seek to take three points from the Swedes and bragging rights.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is the man who made way for Carroll as Roy Hodgson look to move away from the more defensive style played in the 1-1 draw with France.
Ashley Young and James Milner are now expected to be the wingers with captain Steven Gerrard and Scott Parker playing in the middle.
Meanwhile, former Bolton striker Johan Elmander, wearing the No. 11 shirt, gets the start up top with captain Zlatan Ibrahimovic for Sweden, who were beaten 2-1 in their opener against Ukraine.
West Bromwich defender Jonas Olsson and midfielder Anders Svensson have also been recalled.
The game as been delayed by 15 minutes, following the adverse weather which pushed back the Ukraine v France encounter.
