MADRID (Sporting Alert) — Iker Casillas is back in the Real Madrid squad after being named in the 19-man roster announced by manager Jose Mourninho for Saturday’s La Liga clash with Levante at the Santiago Bernabéu.
Casillas recently returned to regular training after he was sidelined with a broken hand and could make a return to the starting line-up against Levante.
The Real Madrid and Spanish captain was left out of the squad for the 3-0 win over Galatasaray in the quarter-final first leg on Wednesday night with January recruit signing Diego Lopez remaining the team’s first-choice keeper.
The 31-year-old is hoping for a recall as he looks to help his club win trophies.
“My challenge ahead is to win as many titles as possible because it makes me happy and I know it also makes them happy at Real Madrid,” Casillas was quoted as saying in Marca.
“(I want to be known) as a player who has worn the shirt of Real Madrid and the Spanish national team with pride and respect and has tried to give everything for these shirts.”
The Real Madrid side also includes Kaka, Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, Luka Modric, Michael Essien, Marcelo and Sergio Ramos.
Defender Raphael Varane is out of the squad.
