Michigan State Spartans players celebrating

(Sporting Alert) — The following are the NCAA college football scores and results from the games that took place on New Year’s Day on Wednesday.

Amongst the highlights on the day came from the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona where No. 15 Central Florida (12-1) upset No. 6 Baylor (11-2) by a score of 52-42 to win the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl.

Junior quarterback Blake Bortles threw 20-of-31 passes for 301 yards, rushed for another 93 yards and scored four touchdowns for the Knights, who picked off one of the biggest upsets in the bowl this season on their way to the highest scoring Tostitos Fiesta Bowl scores.

“There’s not many outside of us who believe we had a chance, but we did and I think we showed what UCF football is all about,” Bortles said after the win.

The result saw UCF winning its third-successive bowl crown on their way to setting a school record with their 12th victory of the season.

UCF head coach George O’Leary added: “It was a great win for UCF, the fan base and everybody that came out from Orlando.

“I thought the kids went out and executed what they were coached all week and back on campus.”

Also on the night, No. 4 Michigan State (13-1) battled to a 24-20 victory over No. 5 Stanford (11-3) in the Rose Bowl.

“It’s a special time for all Spartans, and we came here in force,” Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio said.

“I’m very happy for our football team, the resilience we showed all season long.”

The Capital One Bowl title game saw No. 9 South Carolina (11-2) beating No. 19 Wisconsin (9-4), 34-24, while the Outback Bowl game saw No. 16 LSU (10-3) securing a 21-14 victory over Iowa (8-5).

College Football New Year’s Day Bowl Live Streaming Schedule

By:MICAH DISNEY | Staff Writer Published on: January 1, 2014 10:45 am Leave a Comment

(Sporting Alert) — The Rose Bowl Game presented by VIZIO is one of six NCAA college football bowl games on the schedule for New Year’s Day on Wednesday.

Game will be streamed live on WatchESPN.com, while ESPN2, ESPN, ESPNU and ABC will also carry live coverage of all the New Year’s Day games.

The busy day of action will see the No. 5 Stanford Cardinal (11-2) taking on No. 4 Michigan State (12-1) in the 100th Rose Bowl, with the action schedule for the Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena, Calif.

Stanford comes into the contest high on confidence after winning its last three, including the 38-14 victory at Arizona State to win the Pac-12 Football Championship on Dec 7, and six on their last seven games.

Michigan State is also bang on form –  winning nine straight, include beating the then No. 2 Ohio State in the Big Ten title game and eliminated the Buckeyes’ chance of playing in the VIZIO BCS National Championship game.

Spartans head Mark Dantonio, who will coach in his first Rose Bowl since being a graduate assistant at Ohio State some 29-year-ago, believes it will be a “special moment” when his team steps on the pitch.

“It’s going to be a special moment when we walk out on that field,” Dantonio was quoted as saying. “When you set down and write down your goals and think about the goals in whatever job that you take or occupation, you’re going to have some different things that you want to try to accomplish.

“That was one of the things we were trying to accomplish.”

Another bowl game up for grab on New Year’s Day is the Capital One Bowl which will see No. 9 South Carolina taking on No. 19 Wisconsin at Florida Citrus Bowl in Orlando, Fla.

The Gamecocks (10-2) have won five straight and beat the then No. 6 Clemson 31-17 in their last outing, while the Badgers (9-3) dropped their last game, 31-24 to Penn State on Nov. 30.

Wisconsin enters this game, having lost in the Rose Bowl the last three seasons, including last year’s 20-14 defeat to Stanford.

South Carolina, which beat Michigan 33-28 in the Outback Bowl last year and Nebraska in the Capital One Bowl in 2011, goes after its third straight bowl title on Wednesday.

The battle for the Outback Bowl will see No. 16 LSU looking to end the season on a high with victory over Iowa at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Fla.

No. 22 Georgia face Nebraska for the Gator Bowl, while No. 6 Baylor start favorites to beat No. 15 UCF in the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl game.

New Year’s Eve College Football Bowl Game TV Channels – Dec. 31

ATLANTA, GA (Sporting Alert) — College football bowl games and TV schedule for the matchups on New Year’s Eve on Tuesday, December 31. Amongst the bowl games on the list for Tuesday is the battle for the 2013 Chick-fil-A Bowl title.

There are four games in total, with the AdvoCare V100 Bowl, Hyundai Sun Bowl and AutoZone Liberty Bowl crowns also up for the taking.

No. 24 Duke (10-3) and the 21st-ranked Texas A&M (8-4) will do battle for the Chick-fil-A Bowl at Georgia Dome in Atlanta, Georgia. Game time is at 8:00 pm ET and will be streamed live on WatchESPN.com and televised live on ESPN.

“If we can win this game, it’ll be the first time in the history of this program we’ve won three bowl games in a row,” Texas A&M head coach Kevin Sumlin said. “That’s significant.

“There’s been a lot of football games played and a lot of guys come through this room who can’t say they’ve done that. That can be real special for our seniors and it can really propel us in the offseason.”

When the action kick-offs Tuesday night, the Aggies will be hoping to end a two game losing streak, while the Blue Devils come into the contest after losing 45-7 to No. 1 Florida State in the ACC Championship game on Dec. 7.

Duke was beaten 48-34 by Cincinnati in the Belk Bowl last year and will be hoping to make amends for that disappointing loss.

“It’s the ‘W’ that we left on the field last year, and we know that we’re going to work hard for this one,” said junior tight end Braxton Deaver. “We want it just as bad as we did last year.

“I think that cohesive bond to really want to win this and come here and focus, and not mess around, not do anything we’re not supposed to be doing, but just realize what’s on the table is what we’ve been doing.”

Meanwhile, No. 17 UCLA (9-3) will do battle with Virginia Tech (8-4) at Sun Bowl Stadium in El Paso, Texas for the Hyundai Sun Bowl.

The Bruins knocked off the Southern California on Nov. 27 in their final regular season game to register its first win at the Trojans since 1997, have won four of its last five games and will be hoping to end the season the same way they started the term after winning their five opening games.

NCAA College Football Bowl Game Scores and Results – Dec. 30

Marcus Mariota of the Oregon Ducks

SAN ANTONIO (Sporting Alert) — The following are the NCAA college football bowl scores and results from the games that took place on Monday, December 30.

Among the winners on the night were No. 10 Oregon, which defeated Texas in the Alamo Bowl and Texas Tech who celebrated victory over No. 14 Arizona State in the National University Holiday Bowl.

The Oregon Ducks (11-2), led by Marcus Mariota, who threw for 253 yards and a touchdown, scored a 30-7 win over the Longhorns (8-5), handing coach Mack Brown a defeat in his final game with Texas.

At the end of the day, Brown, who resigned earlier this year, said the decision was best for everyone.

“I think it’s best for Texas. It’s best for me, it’s best for the players,” he revealed. “We need to win more than eight games.

“Last year was nine. I really thought we had a chance to win all the games this year. It didn’t work. It’s my job to make that work. I told them tonight, the only regret I had is we didn’t win enough games this year.”

In the late game on the night, freshman Davis Webb threw for 403 yards on his way to equaling a Holiday Bowl record with four touchdown passes, for Texas Tech (8-5) to upset Arizona State (10-4), 37-23 and ended a five-game losing streak.

“When Coach told me I was going to start, there was nothing but joy,” Webb said. “I told myself that I was going to make sure that I was going to send the seniors out right.

“We came prepared. We leaned on each other and we showed that today. It’s pretty exhilarating right now. I’m so proud of this team,” he added.

Elsewhere, Ole Miss beat Georgia Tech 25-17 to lift the Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl, while Navy (9-4) cruised past Middle Tennessee (8-5), 24-6 in the Armed Forces Bowl.

NCAA College Football Bowl Game TV Schedule – Dec. 30

(Sporting Alert) — NCAA college football bowl action continues on Monday with four more games, including the clash between No. 10 Oregon and Texas for the Alamo Bowl at Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.

Both teams have been resting very well in an attempt for a peak performance come Monday night, and the time off following a very demanding regular schedule, seems to have been a welcoming one.

“The bowl preparation gives you a chance for some of the guys with minor injuries to get back healthy again,” said assistant coach Ducks offensive coordinator Scott Frost. “Certainly some of those guys are still a little beat up.

“But I think they’re excited and healthy enough to fight it out with Texas, and really looking forward to the game.”

Oregon (10-2) star running back Byron Marshall, who was very impressive this year and comes into the battle for the Alamo Bowl sitting at 995 yards after the regular season added: “A month off does a lot, it does a whole lot.

“I still don’t think anyone’s 100 percent, but where we’re at is where we’re at, and I think people are definitely ready to go and ready to play.”

The bowl clash Monday night will be the final game for Texas (8-4) quarterback Case McCoy and he’s hoping to end the season on a good note, while hoping to avoid adding to the already 11 interceptions he’s thrown this year.

The crowd in Texas is expected to be right on top of the game cheering on McCoy and the Longhorns for the victory and Oregon head coach Mark Helfrich is preparing for a rough night.

“We’ve approached it exactly like a road game and a hostile road game. And just being in the Alamodome, it’s the first time I’ve been in there,” said Helfrich, when asked about the hostile challenges facing his team in the road clash.

Another Texas team in action in a bowl game on Monday is Texas Tech (7-5), who will play No. 14 Arizona State (10-3) in the National University Holiday Bowl game at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego.

This game will see the Sun Devils taking part in its third successive bowl game for the first time since 2005-07, while it will mark their fourth appearance in the Holiday Bowl.

They will, however, be hoping for a better result in this bowl as they are 0-3 in previous Holiday Bowls with the latest being a 52-34 loss to Texas in 2007.

Meanwhile, there are two other bowl games schedule for the day, with the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders (8-4) battling the Navy Midshipmen (8-4) for the Armed Forces Bowl and Georgia Tech (7-5) against the Ole Miss Rebels (7-5) in the Music City Bowl.

(Sporting Alert) — Four games are on the action list for Saturday as the NCAA college football bowl schedule continues on Dec. 28. Up for grabs on the day are the NEW ERA PINSTRIPE BOWL, BELK BOWL, RUSSELL ATHLETIC BOWL and the BUFFALO WILD WINGS BOWL.

The highlight on the day is expected to come from the Sun Devil Stadium, Tempe, AZ, where Kansas State (7-5) meet Michigan (7-5) for the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl crown.

The Wolverines are still bitter about the narrow 42-41 defeat to Ohio State in their final regular season game, while winning one in the last five also leaves the entire setup more hungry to end the term on a winning note.

Kansas State Wildcats, meanwhile, which beat Big 12 arch rivals Kansas Jayhawks in their last outing, have won five of it’s last six games overall and junior linebacker Jonathan Truman says the squad is determined to win this bowl game.

“Nobody on our team has won a bowl game, with the exception of the coaches,” said Truman. “We need it.

“We want it really bad.”

Meanwhile, also on the day, No. 18 Louisville, the only top 25 ranked team in action on Saturday, will face Miami (FL) for the Russell Athletic Bowl, while Rutgers take on Notre Dame for the New Era Pinstripe Bowl and Cincinnati and North Carolina battle for the Belk Bowl.

(Sporting Alert) — NCAA college football post season keeps rolling on Friday with three more bowl games as the build up to the BCS Championship game for next month continues.

On Friday, the battle for the Military Bowl, Texas Bowl and the Fight Hunger Bowl take center stage and all the games are streaming live on WatchESPN.com and televised on ESPN.

In the opening game on the day, favorites Marshall (9-4) and Maryland (7-5) will take on each other in the Military Bowl at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis.

The Thundering Herd hit a rich run of form in the latter part of the season where they went on a five game winning streak and averaged almost 54 points during that time period, before a shocking 41-24 defeat to Rice in the Conference USA championship game on Dec. 7.

Still, Marshall, making its 11th bowl appearance, starts as the one to beat come Friday, and junior quarterback Rakeem Cato, who has been vital to his team this season, is delighted to be going for a bowl title, adding that the team will be hoping to finish the season with 10 wins.

“Having a bowl means a lot,” Cato said. “It’s a chance for us to go out and continue to make a name for Marshall football.

“We can still win 10 games. It’s been a while since (the Herd) has done that. It’s another opportunity we’ve earned.”

It should be an interesting contest against a Maryland team, which is confident of ending the season the way they started the campaign. The Terrapins notched up four straight wins to open the season and target another to end the year.

Also on the day, the Minnesota (8-4) and Syracuse (6-6) clash for the Texas Bowl in Houston.

After a very impressive start and then another impressive run in mid season, which saw them winning four straight, including a win over the then-No. 24 Nebraska on Oct. 26, the Golden Gophers dropped two straight to end the regular season.

The last game saw them losing 14-3 at then-No. 11 Michigan State on Nov. 30 and the players are buzzing for a recovery come Friday against Syracuse.

In the other bowl game on the night, Washington and BYU will face-off for the Fight Hunger Bowl in San Francisco.

(Sporting Alert) — Two college bowl games will be contested on Boxing Day, December 26, with the LITTLE CAESARS BOWL and SAN DIEGO COUNTY CREDIT UNION POINSETTIA BOWL are both up for the taking on Thursday night.

In the first kick-off at Ford Field in Detroit, linebacker Matt Johnson and Mid-American Conference championship champions Bowling Green (10-3) will take on the Pittsburgh Panthers (6-6) for the Little Caesars Pizza Bowl title.

The game will be streamed live on WatchESPN.com and broadcast nationally on ESPN. Game time is at 6:00 PM ET.

The Falcons are 1-2 against Pittsburgh heading into this bowl game, but did win the last time they went head-to-head by a score of 27-17 at Heinz Field in 2008.

In the night’s other bowl game, No. 23 Northern Illinois (12-1) and Utah State (8-5) will battle for the Poinsettia Bowl in San Diego.

The game will be streamed live on WatchESPN.com and broadcast nationally on ESPN. Game time is at 9:30 PM ET.

Northern Illinois went 8-0 in the MAC during the regular season before their shocking 47-27 defeat to Bowling Green in the Conference title game on December 6.

Defeat saw the Huskies missing out on perhaps winning a second successive BCS bowl bid.

“(That) game doesn’t define us — we’re not going to let it,” head coach Rod Carey said. “We’ve got another game. We still have a lot to play for.”
